I.T. Department

The Computer Research and Development Specialist is responsible for coordinating the ongoing maintenance and support of installed computer systems within the department, and for evaluating new systems and programs that may help officers more effectively perform their duties. This position also trains and assists other departmental personnel in the use of various systems, collects and reports statistical data, conducts system integrity analysis, and troubleshoots problems in any departmental system. The Computer Research and Development Specialist is the department liaison with computer companies and services, and the City's Information Technology Department.  

Wayne Dunkin has held this position since 1989 and has managed the Police Department's acquisition and installation of a new, more functional system that includes records management, computer-aided dispatch, and field reporting. With these new systems, data management will be more efficient, and officers will be able to file reports and access information via computers in their patrol cars.
