Mission Statement:
To improve the quality of life through fire prevention, fire safety education, fire suppression, rescue, and other special services to all the people who live, visit, work, or invest here.

From the Chief's Desk:
On behalf of the men and women that comprise the Hagerstown Fire Department, I invite you to explore our page and learn more about us. Using a combination of full-time career employees and volunteer personnel strategically located in six stations, we are uniquely positioned to meet your needs whenever an emergency occurs. We train everyday to be the best we can be.
Our personnel are fiercely proud of the work they perform to both prevent the 9-1-1 call and mitigate the outcomes when we cannot prevent your emergency. We strive to provide the best-in-class services for our all-hazards mission. The Hagerstown Fire Department focuses on citizens first initiatives to send the closest unit to your emergency. Our Fire Fighters and Emergency Medical Technicians are cross trained to provide first responder Emergency Medical Services for all calls that fit the dispatch criteria established by the Washington County Communications center. In addition, we have select personnel who are trained in Advanced Life Support (Paramedic) skills, Technical Rescue, Confined Space, Hazardous Materials intervention and other dangerous incidents. You will see us at most planned events throughout the City assuring a prompt response and great service as you enjoy the many benefits of our downtown.
Whether you are a resident, first time visitor or frequent flyer to our City, I invite you to schedule some time to live, work or play here. If you have not had the opportunity to spend some time in the Art’s and Entertainment District, eat at some of the best restaurants in the area, enjoy one of our many Parks, bring your family to the Discovery Center, or enjoy a Hagerstown Sun’s baseball game, time is up!
Until then, please explore the various links and learn about our efforts to keep you and your family safe. Visit our partner public safety organizations and come back for frequent site visits. We will be updating the webpage with the latest news and information. You may also follow us on Twitter @HFDnews.
Thanks for stopping by. See you in the City of Hagerstown!
Yours in service,
Steve Lohr
