"If I Were Mayor, I Would ..." Essay Contest

Each year, the Maryland Municipal League (MML) and the Maryland Mayors’ Association (MMA) encourage 4th grade students throughout Maryland to participate in the statewide essay contest:  “If I Were Mayor, I Would …”.  This year’s essay theme is “Re-Imagine Tomorrow.”

Eleven region winners will be selected with each receiving:

$100 Cash

A Citation issued by Governor Hogan

A boat cruise of Annapolis on the Harbor Queen

Essay winners will also be honored in Annapolis at the State House in front of their immediate family, teacher, and other elected officials.

All essays, along with an official entry form, should be sent directly to MML by March 27 as follows:

Additionally, copies of essays submitted by participating students from schools within Hagerstown City limits can be forwarded to Mayor Bruchey’s office for his review.  He will then select “Mayor’s Choice” winners to help him conduct a future Mayor & City Council meeting.  Copies of essays should be sent to:
