The contractors working on these projects were able to complete
their crane work ahead of schedule, so there will not be a street closure on April
12th. Also, S. Potomac Street
will only need to be closed one day next week – another advisory will be issued
when the date for that closure is confirmed.
As part of both the Maryland Theatre expansion project
and the work at the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts, the contractors need to
take delivery of large steel beams and building components. Given the size of these
beams, and the equipment needed to move them, there will not be enough space on
South Potomac Street to safely unload these materials while traffic is using
the street. Therefore, each weekday
between April 10th and April 19th (weather permitting), South
Potomac Street between Washington Street and Antietam Street may be closed to
all traffic between 9:30 AM and approximately 6:00 PM. A detour route will be posted to direct
drivers around the closure. Motorists approaching the work areas will
encounter, cones, barricades, flagmen, and other traffic control devices.
Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through this block of S. Potomac Street while the closure is in effect, but will be able to respond to service calls within the block.
Please contact the Department of Parks
& Engineering at 301-739-8577 extension 125 if there are any questions
regarding this advisory.
