Weather permitting, on Tuesday, December 11th, work crews from Digging & Rigging will be using a large crane to service a communications tower on the roof of the building at 901 Pope Avenue. Given the size of the crane and the narrowness of the road, a portion of the street must be closed to provide sufficient space to work. Therefore, beginning at 7:00 AM on December 11th, Pope Avenue will be closed to through traffic between East Howard Street and Wilson Blvd.; local traffic will be able to use Pope Avenue up to the actual work area. A detour plan will be implemented to direct traffic around the closure; motorists will encounter cones, barricades, flagmen, and other traffic control devices as they approach the work area. It is anticipated that the street will be reopened to traffic by 3:00 PM Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through Pope Avenue while the closure is in effect, but will be able to respond to calls along the street.
Please contact the Department of Parks & Engineering at 301-739-8577 extension 125 if there are any questions regarding this advisory.
