Ghost Tours of Historic Hagerstown set for October 19th

The City of Hagerstown presents its downtown ghost tours on Friday, October 19. You’re invited to get in the spirit of the season through tours dedicated to stories about some of the spirits that make the season. In other words, this event is the perfect primer to prepare you for Halloween!

Choose to travel by foot or hay wagon to some of the City’s spookiest sites, including a graveyard, The Maryland Theatre, and the old firehouse where you’ll learn of legends sure to send a tingle or two down your spine.

The traditional hay wagon tour, with long-time tour guide Cindy Garland, rolls out at 7, 8, and 9pm. Seating is limited and purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended.

The walking tour, recharged this year with the addition of local actors Seth Thompson and Anne Hunt portraying ghoulish characters sure to bring the ghost stories to life in a way you’ve never before experienced them, begins at 7 and 8pm. Comfortable footwear is recommended—in the event you need to run! All tours depart from University Plaza at 50 West Washington Street.

The cost for the hay wagon tour is $6 (free for children on laps). The cost for the walking tour is $3 for ages 12 and older; $1 for ages 6-11; and free for children 5 and younger. Tickets are available online through Eventbrite at

All tour participants are advised to arrive at University Plaza at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour and to enjoy dinner before or after at one of the many downtown eateries offering everything from traditional American cuisine to tastes from around the world.
