The City of Hagerstown’s Public Works Department needs to repair a drainage inlet under the railroad underpass on Burhans Blvd near its intersection with Elgin Blvd. In order to provide enough space to perform the work, one lane of the street at the underpass must be closed. Therefore, beginning at 6:00 AM on Monday, August 13th, the southbound lane of Burhans Blvd. (taking drivers toward Wesel Blvd.) will be closed to traffic between Elgin Blvd. and Ridge Ave.; the northbound lane will remain open. Southbound traffic will be forced to detour around the closure; a detour route will be posted. The southbound lane of Burhans Blvd. will be reopened by 2:00 PM on Monday afternoon. This same closure will be repeated daily through Friday, August 17th. Motorists approaching the work area should expect to encounter cones, barricades, detour signs, and other traffic control devices.
Southbound emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the underpass while the closure is in effect.
Please contact the City’s Department of Public Works at (301) 739-8577 extension 178 if there are any questions regarding this advisory.
