Hagerstown Youth Advisory Applications Now Being Accepted

The City of Hagerstown is currently accepting applications from interested youth to fill the 2021-2022 Youth Advisory Council.  Interested applicants are encouraged to apply on the city’s website at


Created as a way to expand youth involvement in local government, the Hagerstown Youth Advisory Council’s primary focus is to provide a voice and public platform for youth in Hagerstown.  Selected participants will work alongside city staff and other community partners to work on issues that matter to today’s youth – past projects include selecting the City’s downtown Christmas Tree, planning an Earth Day event, and creating the upcoming City Dog competition.


Meeting frequency for the council will be determined by the selected youth and the youth will have the opportunity to earn SSL hours for their work on the council.


The Hagerstown Youth Advisory Council is looking to fill five council positions.  Interested applicants must be a resident of the City of Hagerstown or attend a public/private high school or homeschool located in the City of Hagerstown, currently be enrolled in an accredited regional public or private high school or homeschool, and be in the ninth, tenth, eleventh, or twelfth grade at the beginning of the 2020-2021 academic year.  


Youth aged 18-21 are also encouraged to apply for one of two non-voting positions.  Individuals applying for this non-voting position must be a resident of the City of Hagerstown and possess a high school diploma or equivalency.

Interested applicants will be able to access an electronic version of the application by way of the the city’s website at  Youth will also have the opportunity to apply via a video submission in lieu of a traditional application.  Applicants opting to exercise the video option are encouraged to contact city staff at to receive further instructions.


Applications for the Hagerstown Youth Advisory Council are due by April 30, 2021.
