Trade Licensing / Registration

Contractor License

License shall expire December 31 of the odd calendar year.
  1. $20,000.00 bond – on the form provided by the City of Hagerstown, expiring 12/31 of the odd calendar year.
  2. If this is a new application, experience/qualification form must be submitted.
  3. Payment of $125.00 fee. Fees shall not be pro-rated.

Electrical Registration

  • There can be only one Master Electrician per company
  • There can be only one Restricted Master Electrician per company
  • Any journeyman or apprentice registration holders employed by your company must also be registered with the City of Hagerstown (applications for each registration holder are required).
  • All Journeyman and Apprentices must be working under the direction of a Master Electrician "insured to work" by the State of Maryland
  • Licenses shall run biennially and expire December 31 of the even calendar year.
  1. A copy of the Master’s or Restricted Master’s current State of Maryland or Washington County Restricted Master Electrical License
  2. A certificate of insurance naming the City of Hagerstown as certificate holder with general liability insurance in the amount of at least $300,000 and property damage insurance in the amount of at least $100,000.
  3. A photo I.D. (current valid driver’s license or other photo identification)
  4. Signed statement page (if not signed in our office, then signature must be notarized)
  5. Payment of fee – Fees shall not be pro-rated.

Master Electrician

  • $150 for New Applications or registration lapsed more than 30 days
  • $125 for Renewal Applications less than 30 days expired

  • $95 for New Journeyman or registration lapsed more than 30 days
  • $70 for Renewal Journeyman registrations less than 30 days expired

Apprentice Electrician

  • $85 for New Apprentice or registration lapsed more than 30 days
  • $60 for Renewal Apprentice registration less than 30 days expired

Plumbing Registration

  • There can be only one Master Plumber per company
  • Registrations shall run biennially and expire June 30 of the odd calendar year.
  • Any journeyman or apprentice registration holders employed by your company must also be registered with the City of Hagerstown (applications for each registration holder are required).
  • All Journeyman and Apprentices must be working under the direction of a Master Plumber “insured to work” by the State of Maryland

On-Site Utility Contractor

  • There can be only one License holder per Company
  • License shall run biennially and expire June 30 of the odd calendar year.  License fees shall not be pro-rated
  1. A copy of the current Washington County On-Site Utility Contractor License and
  2. A Certificate of Insurance naming the City of Hagerstown as certificate holder
  3. A photo I.D. (current valid driver's license or other photo identification)
  4. Signed statement page (if not signed in our office, then signature must be notarized)
  5. Payment of fee
  • $150 for New On-Site Utility Contractor Applications or license has lapsed more than 30 days
  • $125 for Renewal On-Site Utility Contractor Applications less than 30 days expired
