Downtown Events

The City produces, sponsors, and coordinates numerous events in downtown throughout the year, from arts and cultural programming to sports events. Many events take place in Hagerstown's thriving Arts & Entertainment District, which includes the Maryland Theatre, the Washington County Playhouse, the Just Lookin' Gallery and Douglas Zaruba studio, several arts education organizations, and numerous restaurants and coffee shops!

NEW EVENT!
The Downtown Hagerstown Halloween Block Party will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2021, 5-9 pm, on South Potomac Street between Washington and Antietam Streets.
5-6:30 - trick or treating
6:30 - kids costume contest on steps of MD Theatre
6:45 - performance by BISFA students
7-8 - Club Medics band
8 - adult costume contest
5-9 pm - DJ Jay Heich keeps the party going all evening long!

Fireworks at Fairgrounds Park – July 4, 2021
Free to the public! 30 minutes of spectacular fireworks begin at 9:30 pm. Check with the Department of Parks & Recreation to see if this event is happening as scheduled. No alcoholic beverages. No personal fireworks. No pets (only service animals permitted).

Hagerstown Hopes Pride Festival - cancelled in 2021
Live entertainment, vendors, speakers, food, and more. Come out and show your support of the LGBTQ+ community whether you're gay, bi, lesbian, trans, questioning, or straight. Augustoberfest Downtown Plaza Festival - August 21, 2021
In lieu of the traditional Augustoberfest under the big tent this year, the Augustoberfest Charitable Foundation is offering a small-scale German-themed event at University Plaza, 50 W. Washington Street. There will be traditional food, beer, wine, and soda, and live music. The event is from 12-8 pm and there is no admission charge. More info: www.augustoberfest.org

Hagerstown Gridiron Championship Classic - October 29, 2021
The Annual Hagerstown Gridiron Championship Classic between the Rebels of South Hagerstown High School and the Hubs of North Hagerstown High School. At the end of the game, the Mayor will present the perpetual trophy to the winning team to be kept at their school throughout the year.

Alsatia Mummer’s Parade - October 30, 2021
An annual Hagerstown tradition since 1921 with somewhere in the neighborhood of 70,000 people convening for the festivities.

City Wide Trick-Or-Treat - October 31, 6-8 pm
Families who choose to participate in Trick or Treat this year are asked to do on October 31, 6-8 pm. This will help your friends, neighbors, motorists and the police know when to expect extra pedestrians and visitors to your homes. Participation and scheduling is entirely up to each family. The City will not suggest a rain date in the event of inclement weather or public health issue. It is perfectly acceptable to opt-out and not participate. We ask each family to determine what is best for them.

City Center Tree Lighting - Monday, November 22, 2021, 5 pm
Music, Santa, and of course, the lighting of the tree!

Holly Fest - Monday, November 22, 7:30 pm
Student and youth performance groups come together for a free seasonal performance at the Maryland Theatre. No tickets required.

DECEMBER

Christkindl Markt - December 10-11, 2021
The Christkindl Markt is a Christmas shopping experience in the German tradition. Come celebrate Hagerstown’s cultural heritage in the heart of downtown with great shopping and delicious food and beverage.

Krumpe's Donut Drop - December 31, 2021 5-7 pm
The Maryland Theatre welcomes people Public Square to celebrate the coming of the New Year! Watch the giant donut descend, enjoy some Krumpe's Donuts, and dance in the streets!
