Meet the Police Chief

The City of Hagerstown is pleased to announce Victor V. Brito as the next Chief of Police for the Hagerstown Police Department. Brito has 25 years of experience serving the District of Columbia with the Metropolitan Police Department where he earned multiple promotions throughout a progressive career path.

Brito (prono: breet-oh) graduated at the top of his police recruit class and began his career with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) as a patrol officer in 1989. He was promoted to sergeant within three years and continued to advance through the ranks until he retired in 2014 as Captain, where he served as the Assistant District Commander of the Seventh District. In this capacity, he was responsible for overseeing a staff of more than 400 officers, analyzing data and crime trends to create and implement crime reduction strategies and fostering relationships among community and business leaders with law enforcement.

Grant Solicitation/Application
The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has announced that it is seeking applications for funding under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). The BJA will be making awards to assist local and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence. For additional information, click here.

As the result of this solicitation, the Hagerstown Police Department is applying for funding in the amount of $20,308.00.  The department’s application seeks funding to support overtime law enforcement activities within Hagerstown’s Safe Streets areas as well as in public housing areas to address crime and disorder. These overtime monies and supportive costs will be used for strategic police operations that are evidence-based within these targeted areas.   Additional information is available upon request.
