Police Officer Application Process

HPD's application process is competitive. Each step below must be passed to continue the process. A candidate must first pass the written test, then the physical agility test and then be interviewed before receiving an application. 

Written Test
Physical Qualification Test
Applicant Interview
Background Investigation
Polygraph Examination
Medical Examination
Psychological Examination

Factors affecting job offers include, but are not limited to, candidate performance in the process and the availability of open positions.

Applicants must wait a minimum of 30 days between tests and can only take the written test twice in one year. If an applicant took the written test twice in the last year, he or she is not eligible to re-test until the following year calendar.

Depending on the number of applicants, the entire selection process, from written and physical qualification tests to a final offer of employment, can be completed in less than two months, but may take up to six months.
