A central feature of City Park, the Band Shell hosts summer concerts by the
Hagerstown Municipal Band, local gospel singers, and serves as the venue for the Sunday session of the
Western Maryland Bluesfest. City Park's original Band Shell, built in 1936, has been moved to
Wheaton Park. The current Band Shell was erected in 1960, and is named for Peter Buys, conductor of the Municipal Band from 1920 to 1959. Park benches seat 500, and vistors are welcome to picnic on the open lawn area.
The Hagerstown Municipal Band performs at City Park every Sunday evening June through August. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and are preceded by vesper services. Other performances at the bandshell include local gospel singers.
The Band Shell is available for private rental; please visit the
