Street Lights

The Hagerstown Light Department puts forth considerable effort in ensuring that the streets and public rights-of-way in Hagerstown are well illuminated. Throughout the year, new lighting is installed or existing lighting is upgraded in various areas and neighborhoods in response to requests made by the Police Department, neighborhood watch groups and individual citizens.

How Do I Report A Street Light That Is Not
Functioning Properly?

You can contact us at 301.790-2600 from 6am to 10pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

To assist us in repairing the light as quickly as possible, please give us an address closest to the light's location, and if possible, the number of the pole that the light is mounted on (the pole number will be stamped on a round metal tag that is attached to the pole at approximately four to five feet above ground level).

The Street Light Comes On For A While, Then Goes Out, Then Comes Back On Again
When a light is beginning to wear out, it will begin to 'cycle' on and off; the bulb heats up and then goes out, cools off and then comes on again, until it heats up once more. When reporting a street lighting problem such as this, please be sure to let us know that this is what is occurring. Otherwise, when the service lineworker checks the problem during the daylight hours, the light will be cool, thus functional, making it more difficult to analyze the problem.
