Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Washington County

A Habitat Home is a community effort. Homeowners work side-by-side with volunteers from all walks of life. Homes are constructed with donated material or materials purchased with donated funds. Habitat does not use government funds for construction. Builders and other professionals donate their time and help teach volunteers the skills needed for construction. Other volunteers raise funds, do public relations work, help select and work with families , and many other jobs.

Who Qualifies?

  1. The applicant cannot be able to obtain a home mortgage through regular means.
  2. Applicants must be in need of affordable or decent housing.
  3. Applicants must meet Habitat income guidelines and be able to repay a no-interest mortgage.
  4. Applicants must be willing to partner with Habitat, agreeing to complete the required 500 hours   of sweat equity.
  5. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Washington County for 1 year. (Applicants must understand that a review will be conducted by the Family Services Committee to determine need, ability to repay the mortgage loan, and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity).

How to Apply:

You are invited to attend an information meeting to receive an application. Questions about Habitat for Humanity Program can be answered at that time. Information Meetings are held 3 times a year. Call the Habitat for Humanity Office at 301-791-9009 for the next scheduled meeting. The meetings are held at the Hagerstown Presbyterian Church side entrance located at 20 South Prospect
St., Hagerstown, MD. See below for new income guidelines.
