Housing Authority Quality low-cost rental housing is available for qualifying families who wish to live in the City of Hagerstown. Families may choose to live in one of the Authority's 10 communities or live in private rental housing under the Section 8 Program. Programs are available to assist and encourage families to move toward self-sufficiency. The Housing Authority has been rated as an outstanding performer by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and lives up to its reputation by providing customer-friendly "quality" services. Homeownership The City has a program designed to assist low-moderate income home buyers purchase their own home for only $500 down. There are also State and local financing programs available to qualified buyers and other local organizations that can help people with the chance to become homeowners. Housing Rehabilitation The City of Hagerstown administers the State of Maryland Housing Rehabilitation Program (MHRP) which makes home improvement loans available to qualified applicants. The City also has Emergency Repair Grants available to low-moderate income households that are in need repairs that are life threatening and prohibit living in decent, safe, and sanitary conditions. |
