Fire Department FAQ

Q. How can I qualify for a free smoke detector?

A. The City of Hagerstown's Community Development Block Grant Program provides free smoke detectors and/or batteries only for low and moderate income households or households with a handicapped member. Call 739-8577, Ext. 104/105 during normal business hours to schedule the installation of a smoke detector in the sleeping areas of your residence.

Q. What fire codes are used within the City?

A. The City of Hagerstown currently uses National Fire Protection Association Codes and Standards, BOCA Fire Prevention Code, and the Maryland State Fire Prevention Codes.

Q. How do I get permission to burn in the City limits?

A. All open burning is prohibited in the City limits.
