Who We Are

The Maryland Small Business Development Center is a partnership between the state of Maryland, the U.S. Small Business Administration, business and industry, local government, universities and colleges, professional associations which builds on the diversity and experience of each resource to benefit aspiring and established entrepreneurs.

Purpose

The Maryland SBDC is designed to provide comprehensive management and technical assistance to Maryland's business community. Each subcenter and satellite office serves as the focal point by combining federal, state, and local government resources with those of the private sector to counsel and train aspiring and existing small businesses to resolve organizational, financial, marketing, technical, regulatory, and other *issues they might encounter.

What We Do: Counseling

Through free one-on-one counseling services, SBDC consultants work with aspiring and existing small business owners in the following core service areas:

  • Feasibility studies
  • Needs
  • Structuring a business
  • Market research/planning
  • Financial analysis and control /li>
  • Cash flow analysis and financial projections /li>
  • Debt and equity funding development
  • Strategic planning
  • Accounting systems

By leveraging the resources of professionals in business and 'industry and the public and private sector, the SBDC offers, for nominal fees, a vast range of workshops, conferences, seminars, and courses on such topics as:

  • Credit and collections
  • Total Quality Management
  • Procurement
