2009 CDBG Recovery Funds

CITY OF HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND
AMENDMENT TO THE FY-2009 ANNUAL ACTION PLAN
FOR USE OF
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT- RECOVERY FUNDS

The City of Hagerstown was been awarded $249,458 in additional Community Development Block Grant funds for fiscal year 2009. These funds are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. With a few changes, program guidelines allow communities to use the funds as they would their normal CDBG entitlement. To the greatest extent possible, communities are to select projects that create jobs and can be used in a relatively short period of time.

The City has selected four projects which meet one or both of these criteria: Street Overlay ($74,000); Ridge Avenue Traffic Island ($65,000); Handicap Curb Ramps ($60,000); and, Community Free Clinic ($30,458). The first three are activities which will improve the City’s street and sidewalk infrastructure, create construction jobs and can be completed by mid-to-late fall. The assistance being provided to Community Free Clinic will permit them to meet a very strong need for medical care to those and their families who have lost their jobs and health insurance. Again, this money can be used in the same time period. Additionally, the City will use $20,000 for general administrative costs including office equipment.

The City will received comments from interested individuals until May 28, 2009. Individuals interested in commenting may contact:
