The original flag of the City is on display in the Council Chamber at
the City Hall. If you would like to take pictures of it, please let me know.
The resolution adopting this flag as the official City flag describes
it as follows:
"The flag is rectangular in shape, divided into two parts by a line
drawn diagonally from the upper right corner to the lower left corner. The
upper portion, next to the staff, is purest white, symbolic of truth and
purity. The lower portion is a bright, clear blue, symbolic of our Blue
Ridge Mountains and our clear, running streams. Upon the white filed is
a blue figure of "Little Heiskel", guardian symbol of our City,
who stands watch over all. Emblazoned upon the field of blue is a white
wheel, symbolic of industry and our " Hub City" within which
is encircled a white sheaf of wheat, emblematic of agriculture and
the fair valley in which in live."
The resolution was adopted on June 30, 1955.
