| Nuisance
Abatement A nuisance is defined to be any condition or use of premises or property which is detrimental to the property of others or which causes or tends to cause substantial diminution in the value of property in the neighborhood in which such premises are located. For purposes of this section such a condition includes, but is not limited to, uncontrolled weeds, grasses or other vegetation commonly referred to as “weeds” on the premises, the keeping, maintaining or depositing on, or scattering over the premises of any trash, debris, weed cutting, or other similar material. An inspector identifying a nuisance will post the property with a notice of violation which states that if the nuisance remains, it will be abated by the city contractor after a specific date. At the date of abatement by City contractor, the property owner will also be issued a municipal citation carrying a fine. The property owner will then receive an invoice in the mail for the work done by the City contractor, in addition to applicable administrative fees. If the nuisance poses an immediate safety threat, it will be treated as a summary abatement and the property owner may only be given 24 hours to abate the nuisance. In ALL cases, the notice of violation will state the deadline for abatement. View the Nuisance Abatement Ordinance |
