Work crews from Northern Pipeline, Inc. need to replace a gas main in the 400 Block of N. Locust Street. Given the narrowness of the street in this block, it will not be possible to safely allow traffic to flow through this block while the work is being performed. Therefore, beginning at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, June 20th, Locust Street will be closed to all traffic between North Avenue and Broadway. A detour route will be established to direct automobiles around the closure; trucks and larger vehicles will be directed to detour off of Locust Street at Franklin Street, and will be directed to detour via Jonathan Street. Work each day will be completed by approximately 7:00 PM, at which time this block of Locust Street will be reopened to traffic. It is anticipated that this closure will be repeated Monday – Saturday until late July. Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through this block of Locust Street while the closure is in effect, but will be able to respond to calls in this block. Please contact the City’s Department of Parks & Engineering 301-739-8577 extension 125 if there are any questions regarding this advisory.
