Prospective Councilmember Candidates Narrowed to Five

Five applicants have been selected to be interviewed for the vacant councilmember seat following the appointment of Councilmember Paul Corderman to State Delegate. The candidates will be interviewed during the Work Session on Tuesday, January 16 at 3:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.

The five interviewees include (in alphabetical order):

  • Kurt M. Elasser, II
  • Charles A. Heffernan, Jr.
  • Robert D. Lorshbaugh
  • Penny M. Nigh
  • Tara L. Sargent

Mayor and Council may choose to conduct second interviews of selected applicants in Executive Session on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. This meeting will not be open to the public. To close the process, the Mayor and Council will appoint the new Councilmember at a Special Session on Tuesday, January 23 or at the Regular Session on Tuesday, January 30. The selected candidate will take his/her Oath of Office at this time.

All of the selected candidates have met the residency guidelines, providing proof of residency and living in Hagerstown city limits for one year prior to the date of the possible appointment. Furthermore, all applicants are over 21 years of age.

The January 16 Work Session is open to the public and is streamed live on the City's YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/cityofhagerstown) and the City of Hagerstown Facebook page (www.facebook.com/cityofhagerstown). The meeting is also broadcast live on Hub City Now (channel 25) for Antietam Cable subscribers.
